The digital marketer you cannot find: what you can outsource

The "digital marketing, SEO, CRM and AI automation" profile actually bundles five jobs: website, search, CRM, data analysis and automation. A company can hand the technical, one-off projects (site migration, SEO audit, CRM workflows, dashboards, AI agents) to an agency and keep business knowledge and decision-making in-house. The two combine very well.

A job ad like the ones that cross LinkedIn every week: “I’m looking for a Digital Marketing, Web and SEO profile to join my team.” Four missions follow (keep a WordPress site alive, boost classic search rankings and visibility in AI search, run the CRM, turn GA4 and Search Console figures into recommendations), then the ideal profile: three to five years of experience, bilingual, both technical and business-minded, and ideally a developer comfortable with AI agents.

That person exists, and the company that finds them is lucky. But the ad really describes five jobs, and while the search goes on, the website, search rankings and CRM keep waiting. This article goes through the ad line by line: what you can hand to an agency, what is better kept in-house, and what it looks like in practice. It builds on our comparison of a marketing agency or an in-house team.

In short

  • The typical ad bundles five jobs: website, SEO and GEO, CRM, data analysis, automation and code.

  • Technical and one-off projects outsource well: migration, audit, workflow setup, dashboards, agents.

  • Business knowledge, brand voice and trade-offs stay in-house.

  • Outsourcing does not replace hiring: it lets you start now and gives your future hire a clean foundation.

  • Everything runs on the company’s own accounts, never on the agency’s.

One ad, five jobs

What the ad asks for

  • Run and optimise the website

  • Classic SEO and visibility in AI search

  • CRM workflows, email and data

  • Recommendations from GA4, Search Console and GTM

  • Development and automation with AI agents

The role that usually handles it

  • Webmaster or front-end developer

  • SEO consultant

  • CRM or marketing automation manager

  • Web analyst

  • Developer or automation engineer

Each of these jobs has its own depth. Someone who masters all five at a good level exists, but they are rare, in demand, and there will always be one area where they are stronger than in the others. So the useful question is not “hire or outsource” but “what do I hand over, and what do I keep”.

1. The website: keep it alive without depending on it

The ad mentions WordPress and Elementor. It is a common, defensible choice with a hidden cost: plugin updates, security, speed that degrades with every addition. A good part of the new hire’s time would go into upkeep rather than marketing.

There are two routes. Keep WordPress and hand over the technical upkeep so the in-house team only handles content. Or move to a static site: pages are generated in advance, there are no plugins to update and no database to attack, and speed is excellent by design. Our comparison Astro or WordPress explains when each makes sense.

Key takeaway

Example

Our own website is built this way: static, in French and English, scoring 100 for accessibility, best practices and SEO on PageSpeed Insights. A text change is requested in plain language, reviewed on a preview, then goes live on merge.

To outsource: a migration to a static site (from €5,900), or a new business website. To keep: choosing the messages and proofreading.

2. Classic SEO and GEO: visibility on Google and in AI

Search has gained a second half: being cited by ChatGPT, Gemini or Perplexity when a prospect asks them a question. That is what the ad calls GEO. Both rest on the same foundation (a readable site, clear answers, dated facts), with settings specific to each family of crawlers, which we cover in what makes a website citable by AI.

  1. Measure.

An SEO audit (€1,500 to €3,000) lists what is holding you back, page by page, and ranks fixes by expected effect.

  2. Fix and produce.

Our SEO and GEO offer handles structure, content and internal linking; programmatic SEO generates useful pages at scale when the catalogue lends itself to it.

  3. Track.

Rank tracking on Google and in AI shows every week where the brand appears, and where it does not yet.

To keep in-house: business expertise, the kind that makes an article useful rather than generic. An agency knows how to structure and publish; the team knows what customers really ask.

3. The CRM: workflows, email, landing pages and clean data

Running a CRM means three different things: building automations (follow-ups, lead routing, sequences), writing the emails, and keeping data clean. The first is done once and then maintained; the other two are daily.

We work on the CRM already in place when it opens through an API, HubSpot included. For teams that want out of per-user licences, we install Twenty, Dolibarr or Odoo, depending on size and needs.

Key takeaway

Example

A contact form filled in overnight: the lead is saved in the CRM, enriched with the company’s public information, scored against rules written with the sales team, then receives a first email matched to the request. The salesperson finds it in the morning with a context note, instead of a bare row in a spreadsheet.

To outsource: email marketing and CRM (€3,900 setup, then €490 a month), covering sequences, segments and landing pages. To keep: the customer relationship and the tone of the messages.

4. GA4, Search Console and GTM: from figures to decisions

This is often the most underestimated line in the ad. Before turning figures into recommendations, you need correct figures: compliant consent, well-defined conversions, tags that do not count the same sale twice. Many GA4 accounts measure something, rarely what management thinks.

The AI Growth Foundation (from €2,900) puts that foundation right: measurement, consent, accounts in the company’s name, exportable data. Then an automatic report can land every Monday with three simple questions: what changed, why, and what to do. We describe the approach in our article on automated marketing reporting.

To keep in-house: the decision. The report proposes, management decides.

5. The “real plus”: code and AI agents

The ad is right: the skill that changes the game is knowing how to automate. An AI agent that drafts articles, a gateway that translates the site into several languages, a workflow that chases quotes left unanswered.

Key takeaway

Example

For an independent video game media outlet, we automated content production in five languages on WordPress: more than 51,000 articles published as of 12 October 2026, each signed by a persona presented as such. The same principle, at a smaller scale, works for a company that wants a regular blog without spending its weeks on it.

To outsource: n8n automations, with or without AI (not all of them need it), and AI training for teams so the person you hire can take over afterwards. Our position is simple: AI everywhere without a need multiplies costs; AI in the right place saves hours.

Hire, outsource, or both

Hiring the profile

  • Knows the business day to day

  • Available for emergencies

  • Months of searching, then onboarding

  • Alone facing five jobs

Handing it to an agency

  • Starts within a few weeks

  • Specialist skills for each topic

  • Has to learn the company’s business

  • Is steered, does not decide for you

The model that works best, from what we see in teams of 20 to 500 people: an agency lays the technical foundations (website, measurement, CRM, automations), and one in-house person, junior or senior, steers and feeds the whole. The new hire then arrives on a clean foundation instead of spending their first six months on repairs. For ongoing support across several projects at once, the transformation retainer brings these skills together under a single monthly engagement.

Where to start

Take your own job description and tick, line by line, what requires knowledge of your business and what requires a one-off technical skill. The second column can be outsourced. If you would like us to go through the list together, our digital marketing offer starts by checking, in 20 minutes, that it is the right project, on your accounts and your CRM, never on ours.
