SEO, GEO and visibility in generative engines

GEO, generative engine optimization, is the work of making a site quotable by ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews. It does not replace SEO: it sits on top of it, with its own formats (direct answer, sourced facts, llms.txt) and its own measurement.

This category covers the technical groundwork everything else depends on (a real sitemap, hreflang that never points at a 404, structured data, the end of soft 404s), programmatic SEO when the catalogue justifies thousands of pages, and GEO proper: how to get cited by ChatGPT, what llms.txt is for, and how to measure a citation instead of believing in one. The audits published here also say what did not work.
